Books May 2018
The following were books I finished reading during the month of May.
- Jurassic Park - Michael Crichton
- Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury
- Something Wicked This Way Comes - Ray Bradbury
- Pet Semetery - Stephen King
- The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers)
- Casino Royale - Ian Fleming
- From Russia With Love - Ian Fleming
- A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess
- Quiet - Susan Cain
What I discoverd this month was that Ian Fleming is a really fun writer. The two James Bond books I read were exciting and interesting, although a touch heavy handed with the male chauvenism.
A Clockwork Orange, by the way, turned out to be a much more accessible story than I expected, and I'm glad I picked it up because the vivid imagery of the Stanley Kubric film makes a bit more of it than the actual novel. This was essentially a story of a miscreant and the misguided attempt to reprogram him to not be a thug. Had a great style to it.
And Pet Semetery messed with me. I read it years ago, of course, but it delivers in very swift and clear ways the kind of dreadful events that I learned about from reading Gary Braunbeck's thoughts on writing horror.
